Securing a foodbank for WA during COVID-19

Foodbank WA is one of three essential Western Australian community organisations to receive part of the $9.1 million in funding from WA resources companies, as part of the COVID-19 Community Support Initiative set up by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia.

Foodbank WA’s key response to the impacts of the coronavirus was to provide Emergency Food Relief hampers to those struggling the most.

The Gold Industry Group were recently treated to the ultimate road trip through the Goldfields by Mandy and Chuck from the Goldfields Tourism Network WA.

The 300 km long photo shoot included several hidden gems and key stopping points on the Golden Quest Discovery Trail – an epic adventure through the heart of the region.

Culture celebrated in community collaboration

The Northern Star Resources’ sponsored flag pole in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Centennial Park is getting a face lift this week, as local Aboriginal artist Jason Dimer completes an intricate design with assistance from year 7 to 10 students as part of the City’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) launch.

The design is a collaboration and is based on story telling the significance of water to the land.

Gold fever at annual art show

The winners of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder 2018 Art Prize were announced at an awards evening at the Goldfields Arts Centre on Friday night 21 September.

The annual event has taken a new direction this year, offering a major $20,000 acquisitional prize and artists having to submit work to a theme of gold.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder named top tourism town

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder received the GWN7 Top Tourism Town Award in the category for towns or cities with a population over 5,000 at the 2018 WA Tourism Conference.

Held in the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre earlier this month, the awards are an annual celebration and recognition of the best of Western Australia’s destinations.

In 1896, if you opened the door of Boulder Block Hotel and stepped inside, would you expect to find gold?

Yes, there is a story to be told about the secret goings-on at the Boulder Block Hotel. The underground miners of The Golden Mile were “on the gold”, and some of them were said to be selling the gold on the sly at the infamous pub before the whistle blew for the end of shift.
