Community celebrated at vibrant Goldfields expo

The Gold Industry Group was thrilled to support the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI)’s vibrant Explore the Goldfields Community Expo for a fifth year, celebrating the community and all it has to offer.

Also championed by members Northern Star Resources and Evolution Mining, the buzzing expo saw hundreds of locals, families and tourists alike visit more than 70 community stalls at the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Lord Forrest Complex on Saturday 12 February 2022.

Northern Star partners with "The Y" WA

Northern Star Resources have announced a three-year partnership with “The Y” WA (YMCA WA) to improve youth engagement and early education in Kalgoorlie.

As part of the partnership, Northern Star will secure access to 46 childcare places, at the newly-constructed facility on Porter Street, and will provide direct financial support to local youth engagement activities delivered by The Y in coming years

The Gold Industry Group’s (GIG) free Heart of Gold Australia app has expanded to include gold tourism experiences from around the country, highlighting and educating the community of gold’s significance to the nation.

In addition to the Perth and Kalgoorlie Heart of Gold Discovery Trails, the app now boasts a wide variety of gold tourism experiences that include tours, attractions and historic landmarks.

Theme to bring it 'Home' for Kalgoorlie-Boulder Art Prize

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is inviting all artists to register for the 2019 Art Prize, with more than $37,000 in prize money, plus the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition in the Goldfields Arts Centre gallery.

The theme “A Place to Call Home”, lends itself to a myriad of concepts, such as beginnings, ancestry, origins, belonging and identity.

Gold workers join LIVINWell movement

The Gold Industry Group (GIG)’s recent mental health tour with charity LIVIN is being hailed a success after more than 40 stigma breaking workshops were delivered across Australia reaching more than 1,200 gold industry workers, locals and students.

As a result of the resounding positive feedback from attendees, the tour has been extended with more workshops to be delivered at gold mine sites in June and a school tour is being explored for 2020.

Education Charter supports lifelong learning in Kalgoorlie-Boulder

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives from local schools and the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission developed and launched the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Education Charter earlier this month.

Through the Charter, the City and partners will facilitate continuous engagement in local education, training and research, encouraging lifelong learning for all members of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community.

Hundreds of job seekers flocked to Perth city last month for the KBCCI Kal Jobs Expo to speak with prospective employers about job opportunities in WA’s Goldfields region.

Companies included Saracen Mineral Holdings, BGC Contracting, KCGM, Evolution Mining, City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Gold Fields, Northern Star Resources, Macmahon Holdings, and the WA School of Mines.

Exploring life in the Goldfields

The Gold Industry Group (GIG) partnered with the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI) to deliver its annual community expo, ‘Explore the Goldfields’, showcasing the extensive activities and services available to new and existing residents.

The expo saw 70 stallholders interacting with the public, with some businesses even offering raffles or free gifts.

City shines for St Barbara's Day

Thousands flocked to the centre of Kalgoorlie-Boulder on Sunday for the annual St Barbara’s Day Parade, where colossal mining vehicles rumbled down Hannan Street festooned with mascots, Christmas angels and a couple of famous footy sons.

Now in its 19th year, the festival drew around 15,000 people to celebrate the patron saint of miners and the industry’s contribution to the state’s heritage, economy and community.
