Diggers and Dealers Gold Wrap 2022

Diggers & Dealers was back bigger than ever in 2022, with more than 2,600 attendees excited to return from around the globe to be at Australia’s pinnacle mining industry conference.

Even the wild weather didn’t impact the mood, with Forum Chairman Jim Walker crediting the record attendance at the iconic three-day Kalgoorlie event to an active and engaged mining industry.

Lifesaving skills on show at emergency response competition

More than 30 emergency responders from Northern Star Resources, Gold Fields, Ramelius Resources and Westgold Resources put their lifesaving skills on show in eight realistic scenarios at the 11th annual Mining and Emergency Response Competition (MERC).

Northern Star Resources and the Gold Industry Group (GIG) were proud sponsors again of the free event at Langley Park Perth, from 26 to 28 November 2021, attracting hundreds of local spectators to witness the action and participate in the fun free activities on offer. The event theme, diversity and inclusion, was celebrated by the first ever all-female team from Gold Fields.

Royal Flying Doctors Service receive vital funding from gold companies

Ramelius Resources have recently provided support to the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Western Australia (RFDSWA) to purchase Hamilton T1 Ventilators that have equipped a fleet of 18 aircraft to provide the best respiratory support to patients.

RFDSWA Head of Medical Robert Radici said the Hamilton Ventilator is a significant piece of equipment and provides the same functionality as a ventilator you’d find in a hospital.

The latest Resources and Energy Quarterly (REQ), reported Australia increased its production by 0.6% to 328 tonnes in 2020, despite a decrease in global gold supply by 3.9% due to COVID-19.

As the world’s second largest gold producer, Australia’s industry is continuing to keep our nation strong, making a vital contribution to our economic prosperity and supporting the social fabric of our communities.

Gold Fields Vice President of Legal and Compliance Kelly Carter has taken the reins from long-term Gold Industry Group Chair Richard Hayes.

Ms Carter was appointed to lead the Group at yesterday’s Board meeting following four years as Vice Chair, with Gold Road Resources General Manager - Capability and Culture Stuart Jenner stepping into Vice Chair.

Clean energy future for gold

Saracen Mineral Holdings, Norton Gold Fields and Evolution Mining are set to reduce their carbon emissions and create hundreds of jobs from new renewable energy projects in the Goldfields, receiving grants worth more than $2.6 million from the McGowan Government’s $19 million Clean Energy Future Fund.

The projects will create up to 400 jobs and generate 77,000-megawatt house (MWh) of electricity each year, which is enough to power 15,000 houses and save 53,000 tonnes of carbon emissions; the equivalent to taking 17,000 cars off the road.

Newmont and AngloGold Ashanti Australia joined nine other teams to test their skills in front of the wider Western Australian community at the 10th annual Mining and Emergency Response Competition (MERC) last month.

Australian feature film shines light on pioneering gold rush cameleers

Following its success at the 2020 Venice Film Festival, acclaimed Australian drama The Furnace premiered on 30 November, shining a light on the ‘Afghan’ cameleers during the 1800s gold rushes at its premiere on 30 November.

The Furnace premieres as part of Lotterywest Films Perth Festival from 30 November – 6 December before being available at 110 cinemas around Australia from 10 December 2020.

A team of Norton Gold Fields employees embarked on a thrilling adventure last month, abseiling 40 storeys down Western Australia’s highest single pitch building to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Lifeline WA.

Norton Gold Fields’ raised just over $5,800 in funds for Lifeline WA from Norton Gold Fields, Rivet Mining Services, BKay Pty Ltd, and family and friends.
