Diggers and Dealers Gold Wrap 2022

Diggers & Dealers was back bigger than ever in 2022, with more than 2,600 attendees excited to return from around the globe to be at Australia’s pinnacle mining industry conference.

Even the wild weather didn’t impact the mood, with Forum Chairman Jim Walker crediting the record attendance at the iconic three-day Kalgoorlie event to an active and engaged mining industry.

Community celebrated at vibrant Goldfields expo

The Gold Industry Group was thrilled to support the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI)’s vibrant Explore the Goldfields Community Expo for a fifth year, celebrating the community and all it has to offer.

Also championed by members Northern Star Resources and Evolution Mining, the buzzing expo saw hundreds of locals, families and tourists alike visit more than 70 community stalls at the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Lord Forrest Complex on Saturday 12 February 2022.

Diggers and Dealers panel: resilient leaders key to future of mining

The Gold Industry Group (GIG) and Deloitte annual leadership breakfast opened this year’s Diggers and Dealers Mining Forum second day with a power hour, interactive discussion on the importance of strong leadership and Environment, Safety, and Governance (ESG) to more than 100 attendees at the WA School of Mines Graduate Hall.

GIG Director Andrea Maxey welcomed the delegates to the event with an opening invite to watch the success of the GIG’s recent tour of the Goldfields with West Coast Fever.

Diggers and Dealers Gold Wrap 2021

This year’s 30th Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum was hailed one of the biggest yet, attracting more than 2500 delegates to hear mining’s growth stories in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, despite having no overseas visitors for the second year running.

Attendance could have been greater at the nation’s largest mining forum with Western Australia having no event restrictions, however due to COVID-19 lockdowns over east preventing many from traveling to the State, several companies presented virtually as thousands streamed the event online.

Super Pit excursion a career eye-opener

30 lucky year 11 students experienced the trip of a lifetime to Northern Star Resources’ Super Pit in June, after winning the Gold Industry Group’s (GIG) Resources Technology Showcase (RTS) competition among 150 other schools.

Woodvale Secondary College students and science teachers flew to Kalgoorlie on 10 June to explore one of the largest gold mines in the world, the famous Super Pit gold mine, and some of the top sights in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Tourism in Western Australia’s Goldfields region will soon unearth life-changing nuggets of family history thanks to an innovative partnership and campaign between Australia’s Golden Outback and the Eastern Goldfields Historical Society.

Applicants with connections to the region could win a unique experience to dig deeper into their own family history, while their ancestry journey is made into a mini documentary.

KCGM’s Local Voices backs community in COVID-19

KCGM’s Local Voices initiative is extending its support to Kalgoorlie-Boulder community groups through the first pulse survey, available online until Sunday 10 May, doubling donations for every completed survey.

Local Voices is a project developed by CSIRO and run in collaboration with research group Voconiq, to provide an opportunity for the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community to give KCGM feedback and share ideas.

Gold grants for Kalgoorlie businesses

KCGM, Saracen Mineral Holdings, Northern Star Resources and the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI) have partnered to provide urgent relief to Kalgoorlie-Boulder small businesses impacted by COVID-19.

$300 000 is available as part of the Small Business Support Grants, with eligible Kalgoorlie-Boulder businesses receiving up to $10,000 to alleviate immediate financial pressures and business costs, including utilities, salaries and rent, and to stimulate future recovery.

CRC ORE asked Kalgoorlie resident, Doctor Laurence Dyer, to shed some light on the different roles he has taken on and the many hats he now wears.

Dr. Dyer is a husband, father, sportsman, the Technical Advisor for the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mining Innovation Hub (an initiative of the CRC ORE) and is the Discipline Lead for Metallurgical Engineering at Curtin University’s WA School of Mines.

KCGM to go purple for International Women’s Day

In recognition of International Women’s Day on Sunday 8 March 2020, KCGM will light the Mt Charlotte headframe purple, as a unique way to commemorate the day and highlight this year’s theme #EachforEqual.

The Kalgoorlie-Boulder community are encouraged to view the headframe from sunset on the Saturday evening until dawn on Sunday 9 March 2020.
