Future Institute works in close partnership with major gold producers and mining service providers including AngloGold Ashanti Australia and Barminco (Perenti Group), to equip their leaders to lead and inspire teams.

Future Institute of Australia Managing Director Michael McHugh spoke about working with Anglogold Ashanti Australia (AGAA) on their 18-month Managerial Development Program.

“The program aligned with the BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management and had been designed in conjunction with AGAA to ensure practical application of new skills, knowledge and capabilities relevant to participants’ roles,” said Mr McHugh.

Future Institute has also been working with Barminco (Perenti Group) for more than four years and has trained approximately 180 supervisors. The program was recognised at both the state and national training awards in 2019 where Barminco won the large employer category at a state and national level.

“One of the biggest challenges for businesses is equipping new leaders to lead a team. When a technical person commences in a leadership position, they quickly realise that managing a team is difficult and without the right training they often don’t make it,” Mr McHugh said.

Through their extensive work in the gold industry in Australia, Future Institute has recently won a major contract with Sukari Gold Mine in Egypt where they will be training over 120 leaders in both the BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management and BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management.

“We are excited about this opportunity which enables us to launch Australian leadership standards to the international gold industry,” said Mr McHugh.

In addition, Future Institute have also started to focus their attention on the next generation of leaders by launching the ‘Building Habits That Matter Program’ for apprentices in the gold mining industry. This program provides apprentices with essential life skills such as emotional intelligence, showing up with the right attitude, resolving conflict, building resilience and being more susceptible to change, all skills that are often overlooked as they transition into the workforce.
