This year’s Resources Technology Showcase (RTS) 2021 saw more than 8,000 students, teachers and community members blaze through the whirlwind two-day exhibition, showcasing the latest technology and innovation driving the resources sector.

Students, teachers, and members of the community rushed to the GIG’s exhibit to take on four action-packed interactive gold challenges.

30 lucky year 11 students experienced the trip of a lifetime to Northern Star Resources’ Super Pit in June, after winning the Gold Industry Group’s (GIG) Resources Technology Showcase (RTS) competition among 150 other schools.

Woodvale Secondary College students and science teachers flew to Kalgoorlie on 10 June to explore one of the largest gold mines in the world, the famous Super Pit gold mine, and some of the top sights in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The Gold Industry Group (GIG) hosted its fifth annual networking event on Thursday 27 May at The Perth Mint, reconnecting more than 100 members amongst the glimmering displays of The Perth Mint’s gold exhibition and melt house to share the impact of its latest activities.

Exploration incentive extended to fuel industry growth

The Junior Minerals Exploration Incentive (JMEI) has been extended for four years thanks to a $100 million boost from the Coalition Government that will fuel industry growth and ensure jobs for future generations of miners.

The JMEI has supported 85 junior exploration companies to date, with over half of these companies headquartered in Western Australia. Australia’s gold exploration activities are critical to the future growth of the industry.

Since 2001, the Mount Rawdon gold mine has produced over 59 tonnes of gold, milled over 65 metric tonnes of ore, and mined over 220 metric tonnes of material.

The mine site started out with an 8-year mine life and through the hard work of many, it has upheld its successful operation well past that expected duration.
